At our next WI meeting, we have Professor M Mcillmurray, a retired consultant in medical oncology and palliative care, Morecambe Bay Hospitals NHS Trust, who will be telling us all about his role in the development of cancer care services in the area. From virtually no service in the 1980's to the specialist services now provided by St John's Hospice and CancerCare. We now have one of the most comprehensive cancer services in the UK, made possible by huge local support and commitment.

Our annual update on Basic Life Support will be at the village hall on Thursday 23rd January at 7.30pm. This will be led by the North West Ambulance Service and include practical teaching on CPR and the use of the defibrillator . Everyone is welcome, you never know when you may be called upon to help someone.

The first of Brigsteer WI Open Meetings takes place on Wednesday 8th January in the Village Hall. The guest speaker is Andrea Aldridge, the Chief Officer of Manna House in Kendal, which support the needs of people who are homeless or vulnerably housed in South Lakeland.
